A Message from the Director
Dear Present, Past and Prospective Chorale Members
As the year 2009 comes to a close and we look ahead to 2010 I would like to give you a vision of what lies ahead. But first, let’s look at where we have been. As most of you know, I filled in for Mark Maslin from October of 2008 while we were off campus at the Riverside Presbyterian Church on Cocoa Beach. We owe a great deal of gratitude to the fine people at Riverside. Also, we owe a great deal of gratitude to Mark Maslin for his strong musical and organizational impact upon the Chorale. In January of 2009 we returned to the Cocoa Campus of BCC to rehearse in the beautifully remodeled facility. However, our Spring Concert was with the Community Chorale on the Melbourne Campus. So, Christmas of 2009 has been our first time to perform in the renovated concert hall of the Simpkins Fine Arts Auditorium. We were pleasantly surprised to note how much better the facility suits choral performance. It feels great to be home!
Now for 2010. We begin rehearsals on Monday, January 11, 2010, at 7:00 PM in the Choral suite of the Cocoa Campus. At that time we will be preparing for a Broadway Concert to be presented on Tuesday evening, March 16th. This concert will include several Broadway medleys, a special piece by the newly formed Brevard Vocal Chamber Ensemble (VOCE) and several solos to be selected from the Chorale at large. Also joining us will be the Space Coast Barbershoppers Chorus It should be a fun and exciting performance. Concurrently we will also be rehearsing the Mozart Great Mass in C Minor to be performed with full orchestra and the Community Chorale of Melbourne at the King Center on Saturday, May 8, 2010. All in all it will be a challenging spring term as well as a great opportunity to grow, musically.
I sincerely hope we will have a number of our former members rejoin us as we move forward. I am indeed grateful to the members who have hung in there during the transitions of the past two years. For me to direct a group of this caliber has been a dream come true. I would love to see us continue to grow. I believe this new facility can accommodate 100 or more singers. If you are a present member, we need you again in January. If you are a member who has been on hiatus, please consider rejoining us. If you have never been a part of this fine group, we would welcome you. There is room in every voice section. I look forward to seeing you on January 11, 2010, from 7:00 to 9:00 PM.
Sincerely,
James A. Boyles, Director
