A Message from the Director Dear Brevard Chorale Members Past, Present and Future, I am excited to be gearing up for my third year directing this fine group. Throughout this summer I have been meeting with our dedicated board of officers to plan an exciting year of performances. I’m sure you’re interested in what kind of music we’ll be performing. Our Winter Concert will include pieces by Pachelbel (Magnificat in G), Brahms, Holst, A Spiritual (Sweet Little Jesus Boy), A PDQ Bach piece for the Ensemble and two collections of Carols, one arranged by Robert Shaw and one arranged by John Rutter. As well as concentrating on performance, I plan to focus more on vocal technique to enable us all to sing more consistently and with ease. I am still in process of selecting the music for the spring, I can promise you it will be enjoyable to perform and hear. Below is a schedule for the 2010 - 11 season: Monday August 23rd 7:00 - 9:00 PM

This year we’re taking a lesson from Mark Maslin and using the first two meeting dates for the purpose of getting organizational tasks out of the way. Please plan to attend either the 23rd or the 30th for the purpose of:
Registering and paying your $25 fee (unless you are already registered
for credit) Auditioning - if you are a new member Now, a word about our auditions. Members who sang last year need not audition. However, if you are a member returning after a hiatus, or a new member, I would like to have you participate in a very brief audition consisting of singing a line or two of a familiar tune such as “My Country ‘tis of Thee” or “America the Beautiful.” This will give me a chance to familiarize me with your voice. I may test your range if I deem it beneficial. That’s it unless you wish to audition for the ensemble or future solo work. If you fall into the latter category, I may have you sing a familiar round with 2 or three others and sight read a short exercise. We look forward to seeing you on either the 23rd or 30th. If, for some reason, you can’t make it one of these nights, please come on the 13th of September for our first rehearsal. You may wish to email me (j32348@cfl.rr.com) if you will be available only on or after the 13th. Remember our attendance requirement of no more than 3 absences per term (attendance begins on Sept. 13th). Please recruit for us. Our purpose is to enjoy making beautiful music together. Last year our numbers grew from the previous year. Let’s do that again. I promise to work hard for you. The more the merrier (how’s that for original). Sincerely, Jim Boyles
